PPA152 Color Challenge

It's time for a new Color Challenge (PPA152) at Pals Paper Arts and we're working with Primrose Petals, Pool Party and Real Red for this challenge!  The inspiration for my Valentine card came from a card created by Melissa Phillips that used a similar color palette and elements.  I loved her card so much that I decided to recreate a simplified version of her card using Stampin' Up! supplies.  I like the results and I hope you do too!

PPA151 Sketch Challenge

We're hosting our first Sketch Challenge (PPA151) of the New Year at Pals Paper Arts today!  I hope you'll use the versatile sketch I designed and join us for the challenge! 

Since Valentine's Day is just around the corner, I used the sketch to create a Valentine card with a fun mix of texture and patterns!  I love the stamped sentiment from the Delightful Dozen stamp set!  It worked perfectly for this card!  I made the heart embellishments using the Hearts Collection Framelits and a few dimensionals!  I really like how it turned out and I hope you do too!

Paper Players Theme Challenge

I'm excited to be able to play along with The Paper Players this week in their Flower Theme Challenge (PP81), hosted by my talented friend, Nance Leedy!  This Valentine card features a bright and colorful trio of fun flowers that were easily made using several different punches!  I love the pink, orange, and red against the sunny yellow!  Even though the punched heart centers with the added red rhinestones really emphasize Valentine's Day, this card could easily work for a birthday or get well card also!  I like how it turned out and I hope you do too!

Bright and Bold Valentine Pocket Cards

I love pocket cards and actually made this cute set of Valentine pocket cards either last year or the year before (can't remember)!  I obviously never got around to posting them, so I thought I'd share them with you today!  

Bright colors were combined to play off the patterned papers, providing lots of visual interest and contrast!  If you're one of my regular readers, you know I love eye-catching and somewhat untraditional color combos (I love the orange, red, and pink combined with the green)!  Embellishments were created using various circle and heart punches, then highlights were hand-drawn with a white gel pen to add finishing touches to each embellishment (click on each card for a close-up view)!

Pocket cards are fun because, in addition to your written message or added sentiment, you can tuck in extras, such as a gift card, money, or a pair of movie tickets!  These will be going out in the mail to special friends and family members to brighten their Valentine's Day!

The Circle of LOVE

If you follow my blog, you know I love bright colors!  I also love bold, graphic designs too!  This card features all of those elements in a simple and fun Valentine card!  I LOVE all the colored circles grouped together and the one lone heart, don't you?  The colors really POP against the black background!  Inspiration for this card came from my daughter's umbrella (click on the photo to enlarge the photo and see the design up close).  And, yes!  That's my beautiful daughter (whom you can't see) hiding behind the umbrella (Thanks, G!)!

My interpretation of the design is quite literal and it's easy to recreate with a few punches (see supplies below).  The black background was trimmed to 4"x5" to accomodate the colored circles and the card base is 4-1/4"x5-1/4".  Get out your punches and give it a try!

PPA29 Valentine Greetings

It's time for another Simple Sketch Challenge at Pals Paper Arts!  Play along with us and make a card using the sketch I designed for this week's challenge (PPA29)!  Upload your creation via Mr. Linky before 12:00 NOON CST on Tuesday, February 16th, and you just might win some blog candy!

Today's card was obviously made for Valentine's Day, but could easily be adapted for any occasion!  I created my own designer paper using the starburst image from Stampin' Up!'s Hello Again set by stamping Real Red onto Only Orange card stock.  Smart stripes, courtesy of Melon Mambo Patterns Designer Series Paper, compliment the fun and playful starburst print.  Bright colorful flower images from the set were stamped with Stampin' Write Markers in Real Red, Only Orange, and Melon Mambo!  Each flower was enhanced with a matching adhesive rhinestone, adding a fun touch of "bling" to each bloom!  A scalloped border in Real Red was punched and added, along with Real Red buttons "tied" with slivers of Only Orange card stock to mimic thread.  My Valentine sentiment from Grateful Greetings was stamped in Real Red, directly onto the Kraft card stock base to finish my card!

TART & TANGY NOTE CARDS & PORTFOLIO

Tried and true Tart & Tangy is one of the many FREE sets available during Sale-A-Bration and I used it to make a retro-style set of note cards and matching portfolio. 

Stampin' Write Markers were used to ink up the cherries image stamp to create an overall pattern on my Certainly Celery card stock.  The portfolio's flap was enhanced with a double scalloped edge, courtesy of the Scallop Edge Punch.  Real Red Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon and a matching button from the Playground Designer Buttons were added to compliment the cheery cherries! A velcro dot added underneath the flap keeps the portfolio securely closed.

The note cards were quick and easy to make using my Sizzix Big Shot machine and the Scallop Square Stampin' Up! Clear Bigz die.  Scalloped squares were cut from Whisper White card stock and adhered to larger squares of Real Red, So Saffron, Bashful Blue, and Certainly Celery to create matching note cards.  Each card features a cherry cluster stamped using Stampin' Write Markers.  This cheerful set would make a great gift for Valentine's Day or any gift-giving occasion!

CHEERY CHERRY TREAT BOX

Make treat boxes for any occasion using the Sizzix Big Shot and the Pillow Box Bigz Die!  Although my box was made to match my note card set, you could certainly make it to give individually!  The Big Shot makes quick work of cutting out one or several at a time!  I used Real Red card stock for my box and added a scalloped circle punched from Certainly Celery to highlight my stamped cherries image.  Matching Real Red Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon was added and tied in a simple knot.  Fill your box with yummy chocolates, fun candy, small toys or even money!

PPA28 Color Challenge

Pals Paper Arts is hosting the first PPA Color Challenge of the year, featuring cards made using Melon Mambo, Pretty in Pink, and Basic Black (PPA28)!  I love this color combo and love how the two different shades of pink just "pop" against the black card base!  This card features pretty flowers that were made using heart and circle punches and showcases the various prints available in the Melon Mambo Patterns Designer Series Paper package.  Pretty in Pink makes the perfect background to show off the pretty blooms and buttons of the same color accent the main flower and the center of the simple knotted ribbon!  I cheated and added another color into the mix with hand-cut stems and punched leaves in Certainly Celery.  A sentiment stamped in Melon Mambo onto Whisper White was added using Stampin' Dimensionals. The inside of the card was finished with Whisper White on Melon Mambo and features another punched flower in Melon Mambo with black accents, the perfect finishing touch!

Valentine Chocolates

Need a little chocolate?  Chocolates are definitely associated with Valentine's Day and today's card offers a tempting box of chocolates, made for this week's Inspiration Challenge (PPA25) hosted by Pals Paper Arts!  Inspired by this photo of a beautiful piece of mouth-watering chocolate, I created my chocolates and the pretty box on my card using the many versatile punches from Stampin' Up!  Embossed embellishments were added to each delectable piece, making each one unique and enticing!  The best part about these luscious chocolates?  Each one is delightfully calorie-free!  Enjoy! :)

I created my Valentine's projects using Stampin' Up!'s colorful card stock, versatile punches, stamps from three different sets, ribbon, and buttons! 

The fun and colorful Hugs & Kisses card looks complicated and time-consuming, but was made quickly using Stampin' Up! Circle punches and the new Small Heart punch.  Each circle and heart received a little lift, courtesy of Stampin' Dimensionals, adding depth to the bold and bright graphic design.  The Hugs & Kisses sentiment stamped in the center circle is from the versatile All Holidays stamp set.  A simple band of Real Red Striped Grosgrain Ribbon was added at the bottom and folded under on the right to create a tab.  A red button threaded with a tiny sliver of Green Galore card stock adds the look of thread and provides the perfect finishing touch to the card!  Anyone would love to receive this happy card on Valentine's Day!

I don't know about you, but I think chocolate is a must on Valentine's Day!  This little treat box was made to hold three Ghirardelli chocolate squares and it's very quick and easy to make!  The tutorial can be found on Splitcoaststampers.com.  I kept the design simple, using Stampin' Up! card stock and Sticky Strip to construct the box.  The box's flap was trimmed with the Scalloped Edge punch and the bull's eye embellishment was made using Circle punches and the Small Heart punch.  I used a small adhesive Velcro dot to keep the box closed. 

Gift cards are as fun to give as they are to receive on Valentine's Day, especially if the presentation is eye-catching and fun!  This colorful gift card holder was made using Stampin' Up! card stock and stamps from the Fundamental Phrases and Mark the Date sets.  Embellishments include a band of Real Red Striped Grosgrain Ribbon tied in a simple knot and a bull's eye with a centered heart, made using Circle and Small Heart punches.  A Velcro dot was added to hold it closed.
