PPA103 - A Simple Sketch Challenge

We have another Simple Sketch that I've designed for you for this week's sketch challenge (PPA103) at Pals Paper Arts!  Sketches are always a great starting point when making a card!  If you're familiar with my sketches, you know I try to keep them very simple and basic.  I don't believe in dictating where every element should be placed on a card.  I think that should be left up to you and your creativity!  I give you the basic layout so you can add your buttons, your ribbon, your sentiment, etc. exactly where you want them!

PPA102 - It's Summertime and the Livin' is Easy!

Summer is definitely upon us and this week's challenge at Pals Paper Arts is in honor of Summer (PPA102)!  Draw inspiration from our cool photo (below) or from whatever says summer to you!  I can just hear Ella Fitzgerald singing Gershwin's "Summertime" now!

As much as I wanted to make a card using the photo for inspiration, the fact remains that I live in Texas and living through a Texas summer is never easy, even for a native Texan!  Summers in Texas are HOT and humid and the colors that first come to mind when I think of summer are orange (like FIRE) and yellow (like the HOT Texas sun)! 

This gave me the opportunity to use one of my favorite floral patterned papers from the Beyond the Garden DSP and the coordinating Fabulous Florets stamp set.  The floral design of this pretty patterned paper is quite involved, so I kept the overall design of the card simple and clean.  The summer colors of orange (Tangerine Tango) and yellow (Daffodil Delight) look great with green, so I threw in a little Pear Pizzazz to remind myself of what green looks like in my drought-ridden environment!  And, the green looks much prettier on my flower than brown!

Happy Hello - PPA98 Sketch Challenge

It's Thursday and that means it's time for another challenge at Pals Paper Arts!  This week, we're hosting a Sketch Challenge (PPA98) to get your creative juices flowing!  Using the simple sketch I designed, I created a "happy hello" card that definitely says "Summer" for today's post!  I used the colors in the floral pattern from the Greenhouse Gala Designer Series Paper as my inspiration!  The featured flowers are somewhat detailed, so I chose to keep my card base simple and unmatted. This keeps the card's overall look crisp, clean, and not too fussy!  A perfect balance of design, color, and pattern!

PPA47 - Theme Challenge

Yay!!!  It's Thursday and that means it's time for another Pals Paper Arts challenge!  Summer's almost here so were hosting a Summer Theme Challenge (PPA47) at PPA this week!   Snowcones, flip flops, water, and of course, the sun comes to mind when I think of summer!  My Summer-themed card features a whimsical sun and billowy, floating clouds against a bright blue sky!  What do you think of when you think about Summer?  Check out more Summer-themed creations from the Pals Paper Arts Design Team and this week's Featured Artist, Kylie Nicolosi!  They're sure to put you in a Summer state-of-mind!  What are you waiting for?  Come play along at PPA!
