Mixed Bunch Birthday

When I sit down to create a card, I always try to make two of the same card.  I have all my supplies out and at hand, so it's just as easy to put together two as it is to make only one.  When I made this card, I actually ended up making three of the same design and changed out the sentiments to fit different occasions.  This birthday card was made for a fellow colleague who recently celebrated a birthday.  It features a single flower from the Mixed Bunch set and a smart button-tied center.  I like the results and I hope you do too!

Birthday Card for a Friend

 

This fun birthday card was created for my very good friend, Nancy, who will be celebrating her birthday tomorrow (Nancy, if you're reading this now and don't want to see your card yet, stop reading and don't peek)!  She's the librarian at our local primary school and I'm sure she'll receive lots of birthday hugs, smiles, and wishes from the many students and teachers she serves at SJE! 

I love the color palette for this card and I know Nancy will too (she's a retro kind of girl)! The pennants were handcut from rectangles of DSP, as I don't own the Petite Pennant Builder Punch. I used a sketch designed by Jill Cornell at the Emma's Paperie blog for my layout.  I'd love to know what you think about this card, so please leave me a comment!  I really love hearing from you!

PPA111 - Sketch Challenge

It's time for another Sketch Challenge (PPA111) at Pals Paper Arts and the sketch I designed for this week's challenge offers endless possibilities!  I chose to play around with the Big Top Birthday DSP for my card and ended up with this fun congratulatory card that could be adapted for almost any occasion!

PPA107 - Sketch Challenge

 
Computer problems were the source of my absence the past two weeks from PPA, but I'm happy to report they're all straightened out now and everything is good!  Thanks for hanging in there with me!

Today's card was made for this week's Sketch Challenge (PPA107) hosted by Pals Paper Arts!  It's a simple sketch that can easily be "dressed up or down" and one I hope you'll enjoy trying out!  My card features patterns from "Just Add Cake" DSP on a card base of Early Espresso.  I love the fun circles in the background print, so I chose to repeat the design by featuring them on the four squares!  This card looks time-consuming, but it really comes together quickly and easily with the use of basic square and circle punches!

Sunshiny Birthday Wishes!

I am very excited to be featured as Guest Stamper this week on Mary Fish's Stampin' Pretty blog!  I can't say enough about Mary's talent, the inspiration she brings to so many people in the stamping world, and my personal admiration for her!  I'm very honored to be one of her Stampin' Pretty Pals and a member of her Pals Paper Arts Design Team! 

My two daughters recently celebrated their birthdays and this is the card I created for them this year (of course, I made two cards)!  I wanted it to be a happy card that was bright and cheerful and fun, like them!  You Are My Sunshine was a song my mother sang to me and my siblings when we were younger!  I thought it was the perfect sentiment to express the joy my girls bring to me each day as their mother!  They're both in college now and they're both intelligent, funny, caring, and beautiful!  I couldn't be more proud of them!  Happy Birthday, Girls!

Clean & Simple - PPA95 Challenge

It's time for another challenge at Pals Paper Arts and this week, we're hosting a CAS (Clean & Simple) Elements of Style Challenge featuring Brads (PPA95)!  Brads come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and finishes!  They can be added as a simple embellishment to enhance your creation or used as a featured focal point!  The decision is yours and the possibilities are endless!

My card showcases flower-shaped brads from Stampin' Up! used as a focal point on my Clean & Simple card.  This card was so easy to put together, but packs a lot of punch with the clean lines and bright colors against the contrasting black and white!  Best of all, it's quick and easy to make and can be adapted for any occasion by changing out the sentiment and/or the color scheme!  Simple, fast, and fun!

PPA59 Celebrity Color Challenge

Pals Paper Arts is rocking the runway this week with our first Celebrity Color Challenge (PPA59) featuring Guest Artist, Beate Johns, a "super model" of Splitcoaststampers and the paper crafting world!  We're challenging you to use the fashionably retro color trio of Tempting Turquoise, So Saffron, and Old Olive to create a card! 

Today's birthday card is wearing a mix of patterned prints in Tempting Turquoise embellished with accents of So Saffron and Old Olive.  A folded paper flower in So Saffron was created from Designer Series Paper and card stock using punches and a button.  The simple sentiment accessorizes the flower perfectly and matching adhesive rhinestones on either side add just the right amount of shine!

PPA54 - A Masculine KISS!

We've added a definite twist to this week's challenge at Pals Paper Arts by challenging you to create a Masculine KISS card (PPA54)!  KISS stands for "Keep It Simple, Sweetie!" and challenges you to use less not more when making your card!  The following are suggested guidelines for creating a KISS card:

• Clean with lots of white space
• Simple designs
• Minimum time to create
• Limited layers and embellishments

This masculine birthday card was not only simple to make, but quick and easy!  I started with my own sketch and added a great striped pattern from Stampin' Up! and added a strip of Chocolate Chip card stock to create a clean, horizontal border.  Circle and star embellishments were made using a 1" Circle punch and Star punch and enhanced with bronze Vintage Brads.  A simple birthday sentiment from All Holidays was stamped in Chocolate Chip to finish the card off!  Fast, clean, and simple!

PPA48 - Sketch Challenge

It's time for another Sketch Challenge (PPA48) this week at Pals Paper Arts and this week's sketch couldn't be more simple or more versatile!  My card features the bold and bright prints of the Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper from Stampin' Up!  Simple bands of patterned prints with faux stitching make a bold statement against the Whisper White card base.  The crisp and clean sentiment, stamped in Jet Black StazOn ink, is highlighted against another fun print from the Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper pack.  Punched flowers, courtesy of the Trio Flower punch, and red adhesive rhinestones were added for a little extra "zing" and bling!  Clean, simple, and so very quick!

PPA44 - Sketch Challenge

It's time for another Sketch Challenge (PPA44) at Pals Paper Arts and this week we're working with this simple sketch I designed for you to "play along at PPA!"  This versatile sketch offers endless possibilities!

Bright, fun colors showcase the friendly flowers made using the Boho Blossoms punch and simple mini brads.  Tiny leaves are compliments of the Heart to Heart punch.  A sunny band of Summer Sun is accented with strip of Real Red, punched with the Pinking Hearts Border punch.  A birthday sentiment from Well Scripted is enhanced with a red adhesive rhinestone for a little added bling!
